Once you exceed 3.5 tonnes in Ireland, the speed limits change and you are treated as a commercial vehicle.
The first consequence of this law since the introduction of speed cameras is that you may receive a speeding ticket when driving ANY motorhome above the commercial vehicle speed limit of 80k.p.h. (90k.p.h. on motorways.) However there is the possibility that all motorhomes may be allowed to have identical speed limits regardless of their weight. These ‘discussions’ have been on-going with the RSA since September 2015 and are still no nearer a resolution as of 2022. Anchor Point will post an update of this situation on our website as and when any clarification becomes available. At present we recommend that the over 3.5 tonne restrictions should be observed.
