Thinking of buying a new motorhome or campervan in Ireland?
For the motorhome enthusiast who loves to live life to the full, a brand new motorhome provides the ultimate in touring comfort with the latest technological advances and stylish design. There are so many good reasons to choose a brand new motorhome over a second hand motorhome, as can be seen from the list of benefits below:

Good reasons to opt for a New Motorhome or Campervan:

  • Excellent warranties on both the base vehicle and habitation area
  • Comprehensive Dealer support and maintenance
  • The latest engine and safety technology
  • Greater fuel efficiency and reduced emissions
  • Modern construction and latest innovations
  • Hand picking a layout ideally suited to your needs

To start the process of buying a new motorhome it's a simple matter of following the steps outlined below.

1. Narrow down your search and choose the best fit

Because there is such a variety in shapes and sizes it's important to carefully consider what is the right option for you. Campervans for example are smaller, hence easier to drive and park than your average motorhome. You can opt for the traditional VW transporter campervan which is extremely popular among outdoor enthusiasts and also families who prefer a compact vehicle to take them pretty much anywhere with flexible accommodation options. Some come with pop top roofs as extra sleeping quarters and can include include a toilet, washroom, shower and kitchen facilities.  Panel vans have been increasing in popularity in recent years and are a very popular choice, slightly larger with more head room generally have sleeping quarters at the back which doubles up as storage space while on your travels.

Motorhomes offer more daytime living accommodation kinda like an apartment on wheels, with extremely high levels of comfort, ideally suited to people to like to stay away from home for longer periods of time. These also vary in size from compact to large, but in general, most can be driven on a standard car license.

2. How many of you are there?

Who will realistically use the motorhome 80% to 90% of the time. It's very important to keep this in mind during your search.  If there are only two of you but you are planning on buying a motorhome to accommodate friends and relatives, you could very easily fall into the trap of purchasing a five or six berth motorhome and end up with a layout that is completely wrong for you. We have seen this from experience, which is why we strongly recommend buying a motorhome that suits your specific needs.

For couples 2, 3 or 4 berths are a good choice and the definitive decider when choosing a layout will be the number of seatbelts you require. If you are a family of seven, it’s very important to find a motorhome with 7 factory fitted seatbelts. If you have fewer children, then you have more choice in layouts, however the age of the children should be considered. The older they are the greater the need for privacy and often, bunk bed layouts can be a good choice. One last tip, it’s always good to choose a layout with a useable living area while the children are in bed as it offers more flexibility to the adults for downtime.

3. Choose the right Layout

Because choosing the right layout, is one of the most ‘if not THE MOST’ important considerations when purchasing a motorhome, we put our knowledge and experience to work on your behalf, helping you choose a motorhome that matches your needs, budget and lifestyle.  With a huge variety of new motorhomes to choose from, the best advice we can give you is to drop in, look at the different layouts and discuss whether the one you are leaning toward is the right choice for your particular lifestyle and travel requirements. Help and advice is always at the ready here, so don't be shy.

4. Consider what are you getting for your money?

While price is a very important part of the purchase, the bottom price doesn’t always reflect value for money. When buying a new motorhome it’s always worth considering what extras come as standard. For example the Burstner Eliseo or City Car (van conversion type) campervans have a superior motorhome finish at a very competitive price when you consider that they come with a very comprehensive specification and the world of extras including all the quality trimmings of a full sized motohome including sophisticated lighting systems, heating systems, plumbing, insulation and so much more. You'd be surprised to see that you get so much more bang for buck for a relatively small price difference.  For this reason, we highly recommend that you to consider this when comparing similar models from other brands.

5. Check out the Warranty

Over the years the construction of new motorhomes has evolved toward alternative materials which can have a significant impact on durability, safety, insulation levels, payload and water resistance. Modern day motorhome and campervan construction is moving toward 99% and 100% Wood-Free construction methods, where walls, floor and roof are constructed with high density materials that are extremely durable, lightweight and effective at insulating. This is why reputable manufacturers with superior technology and build quality are offering from 5 to 10 year water ingress warranty subject to the owner undergoing an annual water ingress check. We can confirm that Burstner, Weinsberg and Westfalia all fall into this category.

6. Research the different brands

Manufacturers who take pride in what they do, endeavour to enhance the touring experience, safety and comfort for the user. This level of detail really does enhance the end user experience. Burstner excel in this area with special touches such as the fitting of 5 zone quality mattresses and careful selection of a high quality slatted base, installation of carefully chosen windows and frames to reduce road noise, choice of wide framed chassis for enhanced driving comfort, contemporary styling and silent heating systems for a restful night across the entire range. Weinsberg also go through great lengths in their manufacturing processes and pride themselves in excellent craftsmanship for end user comfort using advanced manufacturing technologies and materials at a lower cost. Westfalia is an iconic brand that is much sought after and specialises in quality without compromise in the premium van conversion sector - these iconic campervans are built to last and enjoy legendary status.

7. Consider where and who you buy from and whether they have a decent after Sales Service & Warranty
